I admit it, so don’t tease me about it. I know it, so don’t give me a hard time.
It’s true. I’m spoiled.

How exciting to be spoiled! My sister gave me a gift of yarn. She found a yarn shop
in the old downtown of Pasadena.

The yarn is called Ironstone English Mohair and I had never heard of it. She selected
two skeins of pink, two of off-white. What’s more, she gave me some size 6 Brittany
birch needles. How wonderful is she? Very wonderful indeed.

I’m experimenting with the yarn to find a good way to use it. I practiced circularly with a 2-color pattern from Barbara Walker’s A Treasury of Knitting. I was surprised at its thickness. It is very puffy and lofty.

I have since learned from a Knit ‘N Style article that Ironstone Yarns was started in 1972 by a husband and wife team, Jack and Jan Emmott. It was named after the section of Uxbridge, MA where, in the 18th century, iron ore was mined. Since then, it looks like operations have moved to New Mexico. English Brushed Mohair was the first yarn developed and Ironstone still stocks over 80 shades if it.
