Rumpole would not consent to enter the house. Yet he also showed interest in coming in. He stretched up and scratched on the tall cat structure. Many cats do this just before a leisurely walk inside. Leisurely takes on a painfully slow aspect when I am holding the screen door open in the middle of the night.
I don’t want to reinforce his reluctance for the indoors by going
outside to him. Though of course I don’t want him to be without.
I brought him food and I petted him as he ate it.
One of his matted fur clumps was close to being detached. I’ve been gradually loosening it whenever Rumpole will allow this. If I could separate the last little bit of fur, I could rid him of this large furry matted clump.
There, it’s off!
I then murmured something to Rumpole: “Yay, we’ve got this piece of yarn off you!” Huh? Oh my goodness, did I just say yarn?

Rumpole graciously overlooked my faux pas. I walked inside,
tail between my legs.
