Today is my Mom’s Birthday. One of my gifts for her is one I knit, a Lace Ribbon Scarf designed by Veronik Avery. I used Noro Kureyon sock yarn that I purchased from Little Knits.

Lacy knitting is by no means my strong point. Yes, I can make all the stitches. But no, I cannot keep track of them! This little scarf was just the right challenge for me.

First there is some zigging. Then there is some zagging. The chart is easily memorized even if it took more than half the project for me to easily memorize it.

Once, I zigged when I was meant to zag! However, I’d like to think it’s good that I am not apt to fussiness over everything. Creative license requires no license, and perfectionism can be perfectly platitudinal. Should I reknit just because I over-zigged? Maybe a pattern, though it is set in stone, on paper, should not entirely dictate the knitting. I looked to the developing scarf itself and it looked plainly pleasing. Some call their errors design features. Why not? I think this pattern in this self-striping Noro yarn tends to be forgiving; an extra row of zig here or zag there does not amount to an unsightly aberration. It’s like those garments bearing tags that excuse any defects that might be present, referring to them as the natural and inherent beauty of the fabric. Hehe.

While photographing the scarf, I was able to photograph a certain fuzzy feline friend who can be elusive. Beatrice is the shyest kitty of all, and very very sweet.
